Two decades and counting…

For more than 23 years, I’ve worked for major British magazine and newspaper publishers in staff and freelance positions.

I’ve seen the magazine publishing industry move on from sending printers envelopes containing QuarkXpress files on CDs, transparencies and paper proofs and magazines being delivered to local newsagents, to today’s fully digital production process that ends with ‘print’ magazines being read on our phones.

Life in publishing

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in film production and journalism in 1999, I began my career in 2000 as a staff sub-editor on a magazine about the (then) cutting-edge technology of digital photography.

In 2010, I became a full-time freelancer. I moved beyond the consumer magazine press to editing magazines, website content, and books in the B2B, news, finance, and legal sectors from major British and international publishers.

Ten years later, I expanded my offering again, bringing my editing skills to the TV and audio industry, editing scripts and producing non-fiction podcasts.

When the pandemic eased, I moved out of London. I now live in Glasgow, Scotland, where I continue to work for London-based publishers remotely.

Outside of publishing

I am a contributing author of The Book of Hope: 101 Voices on Overcoming Adversity, in which I wrote about my lifelong battle with mental illness.

I have also written and directed short films (including a remake of Blade Runner), and I am learning JavaScript and developing my skills in photography.
